Tenement

Tenement was a close quarters building that many lower class citizens lived in. What is now today's apartment building. It is still the most common word for a multi-occupied building in Scotland. The act that this was defined was "The tenement house act of 1867". It later became fashionable to live in them but they became dangerous [apartments that were dangerous in new york no way]. also there is apparently a band named tenement.

                               Dealing with workers

Life for the workers was normally bad for them. Once the Chinese workers of a railroad went on strike. It was June 25 that it started and it lasted for about 1 week. The workers just stopped working. The owner ended up taking rations, adding salary, and more. In the end the workers starving got more rations more pay but no paycheck for the month.
